Top Marketing Questions

  • Why is my competitor outranking me on Google?

There are a few of reasons why you may be outranked by your competetion. I will explain how and why this is occuring.

Reason #1 : They have more content (and possibly better quality) than you.

When creating a website it is important to have around 1500 words on your 'home' page, 750 words on each 'services' page, and 250 words on your 'about us' page. The content must be high quality with no spelling errors, be grammatically correct, and well written. It’s also very important to have your website filled with relevant, interesting, and informative content. Most businesses don’t use a blog feature, which is crazy. With a blog or a long article, you can convey your message in 600-1000 words and include many of the keywords you are seeking to rank. If you can provide all this to Google, you are halfway through to the top of their search results page.

Reason #2: They have more (and better) keywords.

A few keyword examples are "HVAC Dallas TX" and "air duct cleaing Dallas TX". Your website needs to have these phrases mixed in with the content. Google will rank you higher when people search for those specific keywords.

    Reason #3: Good quality backlinks.

Backlinks are when your company name is a part of someone else's website. Just having more backlinks than your competitor, doesn't mean you will rank higher. Its quality over quantity. Not all backlinks are equal.

    Reason #4: Mobile Phone Compatibility.

It’s very important to have the same quality on the mobile version as you do on your desktop. Mobile now accounts for over 58% of all searches. Therefore, having a poor customer experience on the mobile version will have a negative impact on attracting new customers.

  • Will SEO (Search Engine Optimization) work for me?

There is an old saying on the internet: The best place to hide a dead body, is the second page of Google search results. If you think about it for a second, hardly anybody clicks through to the second or third page when they are looking for something. The higher your company's website ranks in search results, the more likely someone will click on it. People have short attention spans. The likelihood that someone will click on your website link increases as you go up the search results rankings. An astounding 37% of people click on the first result when they do a search. Another 15% click on the second result and 9% click on the third. So, if you're not in the top 3, you missed out on 61% of potential customers. The most efficient approach to accomplish this and rank among the top results on a search page is through SEO. Its the most effective way to reach this goal, and appear in the top results on a search page.

SEO is not an exact science. The best tactics and methods that worked in 2017 may not work now. Any widely accepted methods that worked a few years ago may not work now, and that leads to speculations that SEO doesn’t work at all. If you are using outdated practices and advice, your website might simply fall short from ranking higher. SEO only works well when you use up-to-date practices. When you apply these metrics, Google will grant you increased website rankings that leads to an increase in traffic and results in more clients and conversions.

  • How can my website get found for the right keywords?

So, your website is up and running. You spent the last few weeks, even months improving the looks, the content, your articles, and hope that all this hard work pays off. After spending time and money to put all this together, you still find yourself struggling with getting more traffic to your website and more customers through the door. Yeah, we know that feeling…

In our opinion there are many reasons why you haven’t yet enjoyed the fruits of your hard labor. One of the biggest mistakes we see in business when it comes to SEO, is that many business owners refuse to admit that the keywords they are using are not suitable to represent their message. It’s imperative to use keywords in your content and find the best ones so you will get found for them on search engines, like Google.

Okay, but how do I get found for the right keywords?

    • Stick to keywords that are relevant to your business, related to your services, and relatable to your clients. There is no point in attracting users to your page who are not interested in what you have to offer them.
    • Content is king! Make sure your content satisfies the user's intent. They searched for something that you should provide them. There is nothing more harmful for your SEO, and disappointing for the users, than alluring them with clickbait titles and providing something completely different to what they were looking for. If you take closer look at your current keywords and examine them well, you will discover that some of them are too generic, maybe too long, or totally irrelevant. There are plenty of keyword search tools on the internet. Even Google has its own. For example, if you are running an MMA gym, why would you use broad keywords like nutrition or fitness? Instead, you should root for keywords like grappling, fighing, and UFC.

Back in the day, a successful website had a 1000 words long article that they packed full of keywords, and they called it a day. Well, doing that will definitely backfire now. Some sources say the best keyword density should be between 3-5%. So instead of stuffing your website, articles, pages with keywords, try focusing on providing high quality content in a transparent manner and using natural language.

Remember! Always write for your visitors, clients, and prospects...not for search engines. You will get discovered for the right keywords if you research the best and most relevant ones for your business, and actively use them to convey your message to your audience, while also providing them with value.

  • How can I get my business listed on Google Maps?

I was out with my wife and kids the other day and we decided to get ice cream. So, I went into Google Maps and searched for "ice cream". We picked a shop and then let the app direct us there. Imagine all those ice cream shops that are either not on Google Maps or are there but listed way down the list. They just missed the chance to attract me to their business because of that.

Did you know that mobile searches now account for over 58% of all searches? This information begs the question...is your business listed on Google Maps? Believe me when I say, getting your business listed on Google Maps is the best thing you can do. It can drive traffic to your website, increase the number of phone calls, and get more people interested to connect with you.

How can I get my business listed on Google Maps? The first six steps are actually very simple, but the seventh is where we come in.

    1. Perform a search for “Google Business Profile”.
    2. Click the 'Manage Now' button.
    3. Claim your business if you haven't previously.
    4. Fill out your business information form.
    5. Verify your business.
    6. Confirm your business.
    7. Implement SEO.

  • How long does it take for SEO to work?

In the early days of the internet, a successful website was nothing more than a bunch of keywords put together and presented in a 1000-word article. However, SEO today is leaning a lot more towards natural language searches. This literally means, that people are more likely to search for questions, rather than a few keywords on their own. This phenomenon is related to the fact that, people are using voice commands to ask Siri a specific question. They are including more detail in their searches as well, so they can find their desired solution faster, and get more accurate results.

Fortunately, these key phrases are actually more useful for a content creator and from an SEO point of view. Because these longer more specific keywords are not competitive, and more relevant, they are easier to rank for, and in consequence to that, they are more likely to convert on a higher rate too.

So, to put it in one sentence: The objective of ranking higher in search engines, is not to rank for keywords that remain the same over time, but to focus on quality content for a larger number of natural language searches, which are constantly growing and evolving rapidly.

So, how long does it take for SEO to work? The answer is…it depends. I know that's not what you want to hear, but it’s the truth. It depends on so many things. Many experts will tell you that it should take around 3 to 6 months to start seeing the fruits of your labor.  Think about it as a long-term investment of time and effort. SEO is the best marketing tactic with the greatest return of investment.
